Compass

North: Need to Know What else do you need to know or find out about stopping bullying? What additional information would help you to evaluate things?

I need to know and find out why people are bullying other people,  how is the bullying person’s personality, and how much stress do bullied person gets.

West: Worrisome What do you find worrisome about stopping bullying? What’s the downside?

After the bullying stopped, the bullying person would have a worrisome and also the downside because the person made a big sin by herself and would feel guilty. The reason is that she harmed other person’s feeling and if she did really big, she damaged other person’s entire life by giving a horrible memory to other person.

East = Excited What excites you about stopping bullying? What’s the upside?

I believe that the bullied person will be excited and also the upside because the person is able to forget the bad memories of bullying. Time has a powerful power which is not waiting for you and it makes you forget something. Forgetting something can be negative way but it can be also positive way because you are able to forget your bad memories and helps you soothe yourself.

South: Suggestion for Moving Forward How might you move forward to stop bullying.

If I get bullied, I would first think deeply:

-Have a time to think about my problems. Maybe there will be some reasons why someone is bullying like I did a wrong thing or bad thing Or the bullying person is mad because that person got bullied before too.

And after, change the personality:

-Try not to be sensitive and try to ignore. Then, the bullying person would have no much fun of bullying you.

Mr. Pash

On October 28th 2010 morning, I heard the big bad news about Mr. Pash who was a high school music teacher. He had a heart attack on October 24th and passed away at 10:00 P.M last night. I do not know Mr. Pash who didn’t teach me before but I heard from other students that he was a nice teacher. However, I can pretty much understand how do Mr. Pash’s family and his students will feel today after they heard this news. I believe that Mr. Pash is resting forever in the other world.

Before I read…

I predict from the title Separate but Equal that this will be about Segregation that happened in America.

After I read…

Who? =White people and colored people

What? They were separated and they were not equal status.

Where? in America

When? between 1896 and 1953.

Why? In 1896, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that states could enact laws separating people by skin color as long as the facilities for African Americans were equivalent to those for whites.  This was the Plessy v. Ferguson case which was about supporting a system of racial segregation that started throughout the South. For example, when they were riding buses, shopping, or going to schools, white people always had better ones or environments and colored people always had left over or bad ones.

After I re-read…

Write the main idea… (Checks!!! Check you’ve included information from the title. Check that the main idea has about 20 words.)

Between 1890 and 1953 in America, colored people were separated and treated unequally under the Plessy v. Ferguson ruling.

Bias

1. What is bias?
Bias is an adjective that describes the opinions. For example, ‘Everyone loves Martin Luther King’ is biased sentence because there might be people who hate Martin Luther King.

2. What have you read or watched that was biased?
On this week, I have watched a video called ‘American Heroes, Martin Luther King Junior’. We discovered that the movie was biased because everyone do bad things in their lives but the video only showed us good things what Martin Luther King Junior had done in 1960s.

3. Why is it important to know facts from opinions when you connect to texts?
It is important because facts are only for sure and right things but opinions include people’s minds that no one can decide it is right or wrong. So, differentiating facts and opinions are important skill.
