Grammar Journal Reflection

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

During quarter 3, we have been working on a grammar journal. One of the things that I’ve been doing good on in my grammar journal is making my verbs fit the way the story is told which in this case it is in past tense. I also have been doing good on capitalizing the letters that need to be capitalized, names, beginning of a sentence, etc. One of the other things that I have been working on and that I have began better at is my spelling in which I am still working on but am getting better at.

But I also have to work on some things on my grammar journal and those things are my punctuation, putting my comas and full stops at the right places. And I also have to work on indenting my paragraphs when needed.

Quite a Character.

My favorite protagonist is Romona, because she is a girl with great imagination and she has a lot of creativity, she also has very creative ideas (that sometimes aren’t even possible) and she would uses those ideas in the real to either help her parents or help her sister or help her other family members. Even though Romona is a trouble-maker because of her creative ideas she would always think of something else to do, to fix the the problem she made. I also like Romona because she gets weird events in her head that she thinks are truth and well sometimes the events that happen to her get her in a load of trouble, because she does stuff to stop herself from falling or getting hurt in her imagination. Romona is also very funny and has some really weird habits.

Those are the reasons why I like Romona and this also tell you what she is like as a person.

Best Effort

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

When I think about sports, I always think about how I can give my best effort in them. I would give my best effort in mostly anything I do, but playing sports has told me that once i give my effort in one thing I would have to give it in everything. This help me not only in sports but also in every subject. This saying of mine, “if you give your full effort in this you have to give it to everything else.” So if I give my best effort in sports I also have to give my best effort in school.

This has happen to me a lot of times not only because I have to finish my homework before I play any sports, but because I now know that my best effort can be given in so many different ways. It might started with school or it might even start with playing sport but either one or the other, I know I have to give my full effort in everything.

An example of this is when I was dancing ballet every single day of the week and I was dancing the same thing everyday I thought to myself this can’t pay off it’s just a dance I dance everyday. But even though I wasn’t one hundred percent certain that all this dancing would make a difference. But last night, I was dancing in a recital and I saw that all the dancing I did everyday made the 3 dances I danced amazing and I wasn’t afraid of making a mistake.

Changed my mind

This unit about propaganda, persuasion and principled advertisements, has really made me think about the different types of advertisements around me. Since I learned different way people us propaganda in there advertisement I look at the advertisement on TV or paper advertisement outside my house, in a different way, I now think about what would make me buy this product, is it persuasion, or did they us propaganda or maybe it’s principled. Now, that I know the different between them I know that I am not gonna get trick by propaganda, nor persuasion, unless I really want the product. Just joking.

Is propaganda principled?

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well first of all let look at the definitions of propaganda and principled.

Principled: A person or thing that is honest and truth worthy.

Propaganda: Making something look unrealistic  to mess around with your feelings, not truth worthy.

Not in my opinion propaganda is not AT ALL principled, because it makes your feelings get twisted around so that you would like the product. In the other hand principled looks at the product and tells the truth about it, so the viewer would not be lied to and would have a real taste of what the product is really. Not people might “but it’s for a good cause.” Well not necessarily it might be helping out people but it’s not showing the truth about the product and because it’s not showing the truth about the product it not principled. Principled is honest and and propaganda is just plain not honest.

Also we have been looking at different kinds of propaganda, which have all seem to me ways to change peoples feelings and not making people see the real product and what it really is.

Favorite Commercial

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

My Favorite Commercial is about downy, a soft soap that you use to wash your cloth with. In this commercial there are about 5 or 6 kids that explain how soft downy is, these kid are about 4 or 5 years old and they say things like, “this towel is as soft as mommy’s hugs”. the kids all say different things about downy. This commercial is trying to tell us that downy is a very soft soap to wash your cloth with and it makes little kids happy. This commercial does not use any propaganda because they are kids that are talking about downy and it can all happen in real life.

This commercial is my favorite because when the kids are talking they sound so cute and also they try to make there sentences make sense but not all of them make perfect sense.

Now that I watch a lot of commercial and some seem very weird to me, but the once that I feel are kind of cool, I would have to look and see if the commercial makes sense. Also making sure that the commercial is not made up and that it has things that happen in the commercial can happen in real life, and not just some made up fantasy. If the commercial seem to have things that can happen in real life then it is safe to watch and have positive things to say about it.

Essential Question #1
When you were just a baby you would think that life was just a fairy tale and mom and dad were the king and queen and you were the princess or the prince. You also had butlers and court jester, (your brothers and sisters). And you thought your life was just going to start and end the same way, you as the princess and you not needing to do anything. Then you grew up and became wiser and see that your butlers and jester were really people that were related to you. And then you see that your appearance and your emotions had changed, like you have  stress from school and sometimes you feeling bad about something you did or even you feeling that the the world stop spinning and you were there falling into the ocean. Now this writing is not about a person that feel into the ocean depressed, but about this girl named Karana and how she grows up to be a fine young lady.

At the beginning of the story, Karana is a young girl that grows up to be a very independent and hard working young lady. At the beginning of the book Karana let’s the men take care of weapons and she let’’s them take care of the fishing and worries about how to sew things and work on helping the village the way she is allowed to. As the book goes on Karana grows up, she changes a lot and she becomes to understand new things like loneliness and how to survive though things like lack of food and lack of confidence. Karana gains a lot of trust when she finish making a couple of weapons even though women were not allowed to. When made the weapon and no harm when to her then she gained a lot of confidence on herself, she decides that it his better to survive then to be cursed for life.

Karana had also grown physically, she gained muscles and also gained the power to craft things like spears and also bow and arrow. She also grew taller and stronger and had more power against things in the wild. Karana wasn’t physically ready for this task she was used to the men doing all the hard work and now that she was alone she had to do everything from building canoes to spear her supper. Karana grew stronger and by the end she could have probably survive on the island of the blue dolphin alone forever.

Karana’s story is very much like life in some way because people get scared and people don’t relies that one day they well have to life alone and fine there own way around challenges just like Karana did. One day you will have to do things that you have never done before, because you never needed to but now because there is only you, u and yourself. And on the day you will have to try it and it might not work the first time but one day it will. Just keep thinking I can do this and never give up and everything will go as planed. Just do what Karana did and hope for the best.

Essential Question #2
Life can sometime be like a road that everyone take. T hen you have to do one things to see if your are going to continue on the same path or move to the a different path, that have different challenges that you have to face. The challenge might me as easy as saying one, two, three or it might be you have to sleep out in the forest by yourself for 5 days with only spear, your hand and the nature. Well the challenge that we all have as 6th grades are test and projects and more test. Most people overcome the challenge but not all. Now this writing is about a girl named Karana and how she overcomes her struggles alone on the island of the blue dolphin.

At the beginning of the book Karana has a brother that is name Ramo. Ramo and Karana lived on the Island for about 1 night until Ramo decides that he can be the men out of both of them and decides to take out a big heavy canoe. Now because Ramo was younger he forgot to think before doing and got himself killed by the wilded dogs. But Karana on the out hand decides to take the safe road and do what she knows what to do, until she felt comfortable to try something new. Karana toke it step by step and did things that would only for sure help her live.

During the book Karana feels lonely alone on the Island so she overcomes this challenge by taking one of the wild dogs that once belonged to the Aleut and was the leader of the pack of wild dog as a pet. Now Karana had other things that helped her overcome this challenge like when the Aleuts came back there was a girl that came and visited her, and had fun pointing at things and saying it’s name in there own language. Karana also had a challenge with Rontu because he died so she just found Rontu’s son and made him her pet. Karana was alone for a short period of the time, so Karana over came many different challenges.

Life is sometimes hard and you have to face many different challenges, that some complete and some don’t. Things that you do in life might bring you stress or maybe make you feel useless, but do as Karana did and take it one step at a time. But sometimes life brings you challenges that you just can’t do, or you think you can’t do. Just do what you can when it come to challenges and listen to your heart and all will be good.

Essential Question #3

Environments can be from being in a classroom to being out in the desert in Egypt. Environments can change a persons behavior 100% so if you thing that we can just go to Egypt and do five summatives in the hot desert you are crazy because I would rather do ten summatives in an are conditioned building. ( I am not expecting this many summatives because all my teachers are so mice.) The environment you are in can change the way you act and the way you do things. In this writing I am going to tell you about how I would act if I was in Karana’s place and how different Karana would act in a different environment.

First of all I am going to tell you how I would act if I were in Karana’s place. Well first let me give you a heads up I done not like things like fish and clam and I don’t make anythings except if I can make it out of Lego. I would have stayed calm until my brother died and then I would have freaked out and probably starve, because I hate fish. My home would have been up on a tree and I would not have a pet dog or pet birds. I would be able to maybe make a fire, but not really. I would have only been surviving on water and probably be dying of heat in the summer and be frozen from head to toe. Ah, it would probably be torture. Well you probably got the bottom line I would be dead before the men came to save me.

And here something to thing about, Karana surviving in a different environment. If Karana would have been ship racked onto a different Island and only she would have lived, then what do you think would have happened. Karana wouldn’t have a greater chance of living because the environment is all new and she would just have been lost looking for food. Karana wouldn’t have had the chance she did to survive if she did not know the Island as well as she knew the Island of the blue dolphin. Karana would have probably been lost and die because she couldn’t find her way back or maybe she couldn’t find what she was looking for, such as food or even water.

Karana was very lucky to be in an environment she new very well, and I am lucky I am not Karana. As you can see environments do change the way you do things if it is about weather or maybe even the lack of food or water. Life are lost because of these kinds of challenges, but some people are really lucky like Karana was. Some people have luck or maybe some people have wisdom and can’t wait to use it. You might have great knowledge but what can really change and throw you off is the way your environment is formed.

Island of the Blue Dolphin (Chapter 25-29)

Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I there just wanted to write, because my dog Rontu died after many year if living, what happen was I discovered that Rontu disappeared and I follow is tracks close to the sun set, when I finally found him the sun was out if the sky and there were a lot of stars. In the morning I broth him in my arm (he was less heavy then before.) I walked till he was looking at the seagulls I let him down so he could bark and chase them but he did not do either of these things. I asked him what was wrong but he did not do anything. I knelled down and felt his heart two beats then nothing. I yelled and cried I didn’t know what to do so I berried him and put colourful pebbles on top of were I berried him.

For a couple of suns I felt lonely with my pet birds and the red fox, I missed Rontu  a lot that I even saw the dogs once our twice and saw that one dog looked a lot like Rontu. To catch Rontu son (well I thought that he was his son,) I put a kind of Poison in the spring that the dogs drank water from. They all fell asleep and I toke Rontu’s son to my house and tamed him I called him Rontu-Aru which mean son of Rontu.

When men came to my camp by following my fire. I follow them, and I end them wearing this really ugly dress that one of the men made for me. I follow them off the Island with my stuff and leave the island after 10 sun pasted by, I left the island with all my stuff. I said goodbye to the days I was alone and said hello to my new life with Rontu-Aru and my birds.

Oh and the boat that took all the people of the island the boat I jumped off to be with my brother, it sunk and all the people of my island counting my sister were dead so, yeah I am very happy I jumped off that boat.

Sincerely

Karana

Hey there again, this is Karana. I am going to tell you a bit more on what is happening with my life right now. I went to the cave a couple weeks ago and got a couple of herbs so that if I get hurt again then it would be ready in the house I made in a certain area. I also went to the cave to kill the wild dogs.

I also made a new friend, his name is Rontu and guess how he became my pet dog. Well I was about to kill him I made a wound in his chest and I decided to help him and he just started to become my friend and well ya now he is my pet dog.

I made spear and it’s pretty hard because I am not 100% certain how to make it and also woman’s aren’t allowed to make weapon but I really did care and tried many times and now I have 2 really good spears.

I am not lonely anymore because of my of my new pet dog Rontu.
